News: Rally at Media Courthouse Commemorates Voting Rights Act

Article - Rally at Media Courthouse Commemorates Voting Rights Act appeared in the Delaware County Daily Times on August 8, 2026. The rally commemorated the Voting Rights Act of 1965 at the Delaware County courthouse Saturday, joining a network of others occurring throughout the country. It was part of the nationwide League of Women Voters Unite & Rise Day of Action and part of Women Defend Democracy with the goal to engage and mobilize 8.5 million voters to protect and preserve American democracy.

The Unite & Rise for Voting Rights Rally was hosted by the League of Women Voters of Delaware County Inter League Organization (ILO), members of the NAACP of Media, the PA Youth Vote, the Girl Scouts of America and America 250 PA/Delco and Delco Indivisible also participated.

Roberta Winters, president of the League of Women Voters of Delawre County ILO, reiterated the sentiment of suffrage leaders in saying, “By having a vote, we can elect individuals who are dedicated to making our lives better.” She also referred to the words of Coretta Scott King when she said, “Struggle is a never-ending process. Freedom is never really won. You earn it and win it in every generation.”
