Topic: General Assembly Action on Voting and More
Julia Tanner, lobbyist for the League of Women Voters of Virginia, will join us Tuesday, Feb.2nd, at 11:45 a.m. for our First Tuesday Zoom lunch. She will update us on issues such as voter access and the National Popular Vote now before the General Assembly.
This year’s session is critical as several actions that increased voter turnout in November’s presidential election were emergency adjustments due to the pandemic. The League of Women Voters of Virginia is lobbying to have drop boxes, elimination of the witness requirement for mail-in ballots, and prepaid postage made permanent improvements to Virginia’s election procedures. The League of Women Voters has long advocated for vote by mail in order to improve voters’ access to the polls.
Julia will share her expertise on how to contact and work with local legislators. She will update us on the status of bills and which ones need support from legislators representing Montgomery County and the New River region.
Please join the League of Women Voters of Montgomery County on Feb. 2nd at 11:45 a.m. Look for an e-mail with the Zoom link two weeks before the event. If you are not on the email list, contact ">league.mcva [at] gmail.com for the Zoom link.
