Our First Tuesday Talk on January 6, 2026 at 11:45 a.m. will prepare us League members for the 2026 General Assembly, which begins on January 14th. This session will tackle major issues for our state – as well as essential votes on four Constitutional Amendments.

Our First Tuesday Talk will be held in Bull & Bones’ meeting room beginning at 11:45 a.m. Bull and Bones is in the First and Main shopping center in Blacksburg, VA.

The League of Women Voters is one of the most influential groups in lobbying for issues such as school funding, women’s reproductive freedom, and the environment. Your phone calls, letters and visits with your local legislator can make a major difference in important bills being passed.

League Director of Advocacy Gunin Kiran and former President Carolyn Rude will share information about the session and how you can be involved in supporting legislation supported by the League of Women Voters of Virginia. Much of this work you can do without leaving home, as by attending weekly Women’s Legislative Roundtables by Zoom or joining a League Issue Group and following legislation. Find out how these work. You can also share your views with your representatives, informed by information the League shares with you.

We will also be sharing information about attending League Day at the General Assembly in Richmond on February 11, 2026. League Day is an opportunity to join local Leagues from across the state members to gather for learning, networking, and advocacy. Participants can expect  clear ways to take action in support of democracy through briefings on key issues and opportunities to engage with one another and our legislators.
