How to Travel Your Site as a Webmaster

How to Travel Your Site as a Webmaster

This documentation has not been updated since the addition of new functionality for your front page/homepage (May 2021).

As a webmaster (also called administrator member), you are capable of creating, editing, and managing your site, its content, files, and online members.

Read through this guide to learn more about the buttons and menus you have access to once you login as a webmaster. For additional resources, see the list at the bottom of this page.

This guide will help to explain the following terms and tools:

Content Moderation

This on-going process refers to the changes you make to content, from draft to published to draft and so on. Revisions happen each time the edits to a content item are saved, whether that is in draft or published mode. Read more about this process.

The Administrator League Site menu offers links to create new content—just click any of the Add … (i.e. Add Page, Add Form, etc.) links to get started. This same menu offers site management tools, like Manage Content where you can manage any content item within your site, draft or published.

The webmaster tabs are key to the content moderation process. To make a revision, access a content item’s editing form by using either the Edit draft tab or New draft tab. To view the moderation notes left behind for each revision of that content item, select the Moderate tab.

Dynamic Views v. Content

Aside from the content types available with your site, there are five webpages that are better known as dynamic views. A dynamic view is a predefined list of content that is continuously changing. Dynamic views are not editable so they do not offer the webmaster tabs. They will only be updated as you save published content. While viewing a dynamic view, you can manage the content in the list by accessing the context menus.

Title of Dynamic View Found at https:// my.lwv.org/state/league-name... When published, ____ displays on this view
Action Alerts …/action-alerts action alerts (content type)
Articles (Our News and Announcements) …/articles articles (content type)
Calendar (Upcoming Events) …/calendar events (content type)
Positions (Our Positions) /positions positions (content type)
Members-Only (Members Only Content) .../private any content marked private

Most of these dynamic views first list your own League's content, then subscribed content underneath that. The Calendar lists all events (subscribed and your own) together in order of event date. Members-Only firstly lists private events, followed by any other private content types (all must be published, but marked private).

These dynamic views cannot be directly edited as you would with any content. Instead, you have access to your League Custom View Headers that allow you to edit the section directly above these dynamic views.

Aside from those 5 above, your site is also able to generate the following special dynamic views. Like any dynamic view, these are not directly editable. Use the context menus where available or Manage Content.

Title of Dynamic View Found at https:// my.lwv.org/state/league-name... When published, ____ displays on this view
Slideshow your homepage slideshow item (content type)
Promoted to front page your homepage any published content currently promoted to front page
All posts related to this committee .../committee/provide-your-title see documentation on Related Content

As you publish certain content types, you'll see that content appear on the corresponding dynamic view. For example, published events appear on the Calendar while any published slideshow items will appear in the homepage slideshow.

Edit v. View v. Moderate

  • Edit Draft = An unpublished draft is available to continue making changes. Saving your changes in draft mode will override the existing draft revision. **
  • New Draft = Start a draft to begin making changes. This will only appear when a draft does not exist. **

**Drafts are only available to authenticated webmasters. Both draft tabs will take you to the editing form for that particular content item.

  • View published = View mode for the public version of this particular content item. This tab is especially helpful when you have a saved draft of this content item.
  • View draft = View mode for the current revision in draft mode of this particular content item. The draft is only visible and accessible to webmasters.
  • Moderate = Same as Revisions tab. This tab will list every saved revision for that particular content item, with each revision offering the ability to view it, revert back to it, or delete it completely from the list. You can also access the editing form from this tab, using the New draft or Edit draft link.
  • Revisions = Just like the Moderate tab, this is a list of the revisions saved for that particular content item.
  • Compare revisions = Visible when viewing the Moderate or Revisions tab. You can select two revisions to compare to each other. The comparisons will first be presented as Standard; there are links to each Standard and Marked down so you can switch between them if needed. Standard version presents the revisions side-by-side in HTML markup. The Marked down version strips the HTML markup while still presenting the changes side-by-side.

Other webmaster tabs

These tabs are not available across all content types:

  • Webform = Same as Form components tab. Opening this tab brings you to the list of form components, and it also reveals four additional tabs related to the Webform portion. Learn about webforms.
    • Form components = Just like the Webform tab, this is a list of the form components (i.e. questions) that make up your webform. See an example of each form component type available.
    • Conditionals = Set up conditions that reveal or omit certain form components based on user input. These conditions must be associated with one or more of the form components.
    • E-mails = Configure an email to be sent once a submission is received. You can set up an email to go to the person filling out the form, to a specific board member, or others. Learn more about email settings for webforms.
    • Form settings = several form features can be managed from the Form settings tab, like the confirmation page message, the progress bar, and the SUBMIT button label. Learn more about the Form settings tab.
  • Results = Same as Submissions tab. Once you begin collecting submissions to your webform, the list of them will be accessed here. This tab also reveals four additional tabs related to the webform results/submissions.
    • Submissions = Just like the Results tab, this is a list of the form submissions. You can click through to each by clicking the submission number or 'view' to further manage each submission individually.
    • Analysis = Compare submission data per component value. Use the link to Add analysis components and the button below it to add or remove components to the analysis.
    • Table = View the submission date and time, user, IP address, and all form component values for each submission, all on the same screen.
    • Download = Download a spreadsheet of the data in the list of submissions. The default selections will download all results as a Microsoft Excel file to your browser.
    • Clear = This will delete all submissions in the Results tab list.
  • Group = On your League landing page only. The link to Add people allows you to add an online group member to your League (or follow our usual procedure via Manage Members). The links to Menus and People provide limited access; instead, we recommend using Manage Menu to access your list of menu links and Manage Members for accessing your group members.

Context Menus

Access the context menus anywhere that the cog/gear appears when hovering over most objects, only while in view mode. The context menus offer additional ways to edit or manage content or menus, all while viewing your site.

Many elements across your site offer a context menu. Check out examples of these elements and see from where these context menus can be accessed:

Cloning Content

What is cloning?

Create an exact copy of a published content item. If no published version is available, then the most recent draft will be cloned. Content that can be cloned includes action alerts, articles, events, pages, positions, and webforms. All of the original content's settings will be intact but you can make any changes before you first save the clone from its editing form

How to clone

There are three ways to reach the link to clone content:
  • from Manage Content
  • directly from the content while in view mode
  • from a content's context menu while in a list

The only requirement before you can clone content is that you must be listed as that content's author. Follow this guide to change the author for select content items.

Clone from Manage Content

Locate the content item in the list then select the clone link under Operations.

Clone from Manage Content

Clone from View mode

While in view mode (view draft or view published), the link to clone is located under the webmaster tabs.

Clone from View mode

Clone from Context menu

While on any page with a dynamic view, you can access the context menu for those content items. Just hover your mouse over that content item, click the cog/gear to open the context menu, then select the last option: Clone.

Content Types

There are several content types included in the MyLO system. All content types, when adding a new content item, require a title to then create the URL/path as its address and once saved, they offer their own set of webmaster tabs. These content types include:

  • Slideshow Item: Content requiring an image so that it displays within the slideshow (part of your homepage). Learn about managing your slideshow.
  • Webform: Content with the ability to build an online form (via Webform tab) that can send emails with each submission. Find more info about webforms.
  • Page: Similar to the Webform, this content type offers the same ability to create an online form. Additionally, pages offer main image fields, a section for attachments (no images). Learn about adding this content type.
  • Committee: Content that can list other content that is related to it. Learn more about related content
  • Event: Content with a specified date, time, and/or date range. Location and registration link are other useful fields for this type, and an online form can also be added. Published events appear on the appropriate view. Find out how to add an event.
  • Action Alert: Content requiring a time range. Published action alerts appear on the appropriate dynamic view. Learn more about adding an action alert.
  • Article: Content that is intended for temporal information such as news, press releases and/or mentions, blog posts, and member's spotlights. Published articles appear on the appropriate dynamic view. Learn about creating articles.
  • Position: Content that must relate to at least one issue of focus. Published positions appear on the appropriate dynamic view. Learn more about adding a position.
  • Landing page: This is also called your homepage or front page. Each League receives only one landing page. The homepage offers page title and body sections like other content, but you can also manage several sitewide settings. Learn more about your League's landing page.
  • Local League Custom View Headers: The section above all five dynamic views. Each League receives only one of this content type. Learn about editing this section.
