Keep ICE Detention Center Out of Dublin

In support of the ICE Out of Dublin Coalition, your action is needed! Submit a public comment to keep the Dublin prison closed. FCI Dublin is a former federal women's prison that was shut down in 2024, following years of horrific staff sexual abuse and brave organizing by survivors. Now, FCI Dublin is one step closer to reopening as an immigration detention center.

•Last year, the federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) announced plans to transfer the FCI Dublin property to the General Services Administration (GSA), the agency that manages federal government property.

•    The GSA is actively scouting for property for ICE, and ICE is actively searching for detention space in Northern California.

•    Once BOP transfers the property to GSA, GSA can then hand the FCI Dublin property to ICE or another agency to reopen the prison for immigration detention.

On Friday, May 1, 2026, the BOP published an environmental assessment, a necessary step in the property transfer process. The assessment shows what FCI Dublin survivors have been saying for years: the FCI Dublin facility is unsafe and uninhabitable, and would cost tens of millions of dollars to repair.

The public has until June 1, 2026 to provide feedback on BOP's plan. The ICE Out of Dublin Coalition and AFSC California Healing Justice are asking our community to submit public comments and tell the BOP: keep FCI Dublin closed, and keep ICE out of Dublin!

NOTE: While we have strong immigration positions and guidance from LWVUS opposing adding detention facilities and otherwise enabling ICE to continue abusing our communities, only LWVUS can address BOP  on behalf of the League, because it is a federal agency. Therefore, we are urging our members to respond as individual members of the public to this opportunity for public comment.
