The time has come for Congress to repair the vulnerabilities in the Electoral Count Act of 1887 to protect our elections. The reforms proposed will help to further clarify the role of elected officials in submitting a slate of electors and will reiterate that the Vice President plays an exclusively ceremonial role in the electoral count process. 

Although further action is needed to protect voters and ensure free and fair elections fully, these reforms are a necessary first step to ensure the integrity of our democracy. This bill reaffirms the power of the people’s voices by preventing the baseless rejection of state electors and holding states accountable to provide an accurate slate of electors to Congress.
