Action-Advocacy Meeting

How the League Takes Action
The Action-Advocacy committee reviewed the process of how the League takes action at all levels of government. Advocacy activities are often “educational” and can provide forums for discussing issues and educating members and the public. Lobbying is an attempt to influence specific legislation that has been proposed.

The LWVC Bill Status Report lists bills upon which the state League has taken a position. You can view letters to support or oppose legislation on which it has taken a position. A current example is SB 28 (Glazer), which deals with financing of school facilities.  LWVC President Carol Moon Goldberg wrote a letter of support for the bill, only if it is amended to ensure a significantly more equitable system of funding K-12 facilities.

Action-Advocacy Leadership for 2023-2024
After Marian Shostrom’s term ends in June, Mary Schreiber will continue to lead the group with a new co-chair. Could that new co-chair be you? The Committee meets monthly on Zoom and is a great way to get to know other League members and how the League works, and more fully understand the issues at all levels of League. If you want to learn more, email action-advocacy [at] lwvdv.org to set up a phone call or meeting with Mary and Marian. Mentoring will be provided.

Date Change for April Meeting
Because the 4th Saturday in April is Earth Day, Action-Advocacy will meet on Saturday, April 29th, from 10 am - noon. Mark your calendar!
