The League Takes Action

The League of Women Voters of Diablo Valley Action-Advocacy Committee meets monthly to learn about issues, and League positions. The A-A Committee may recommend that the LWVDV Board “take action” by writing a letter, letter to the editor, opinion piece, etc.  In January 2023, LWVDV President Anne Granlund wrote a letter to Pleasant Hill City Council members encouraging them to follow the will of the voters in the November 2022 election, and appoint the third-place finisher (out of six candidates for two positions) to the position vacated by Ken Carlson when he was elected to the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors. The letter was read during public comment at the January 23, 2023, Council meeting by LWVDV member Michelle Simone.

League members met on Zoom January 28, 2023, to learn about and discuss a variety of issues. Marielle Boortz reported on the Hazardous Materials Commission, brownfield sites, and release of toxic materials in Martinez on November 24-25, 2022. Joanne Supersad described meetings she has attended to learn about safety net providers in Contra Costa County, and Guaranteed Income Programs.

Reminder: LWVDV Members can view notes from all Action-Advocacy meetings meeting in the Members Only section of the LWVDV website. (You must be logged in to access the Members Only section. To request a username and password, please email webmaster [at] lwvdv.org.)
