NewsThe League of Women Voters is switching to a national membership management system in January 2025. This will change the way members from all Leagues across the country will join, renew, and pay membership dues.
LWV expects that moving to this new system will:
- Increase and diversify overall membership, improving our ability to fulfill our mission.
- Increase funding at the state and local levels where it is needed.
- Allow League leaders more time to focus on substantive work by eliminating duplicative efforts.
You do not need to take any action right now, but we want to provide you with an overview of what these changes will mean for you.
When the new system launches in January 2025, you will receive an email instructing you to register as a member.
- You will not need to renew or pay dues when you register on ChapterSpot, which is the new system.
- You will be able to update your contact information.
- You will have the option to sign up to auto-renew annually.
When it is time for you to renew, you will receive an email reminder.
- You will be reminded to renew one year after your last renewal.
- If you have signed up for auto-renew, you will get a reminder that your membership is automatically renewing.
New membership dues:
- The recommended dues amount for all members will be $75.
- There will be a pay-what-you-can option where members can choose their own dues amount, with a minimum of $20.
- There will no longer be different categories of membership (such as Individual, Household, or Student).
- Life Members (members for more than 50 years) will continue to be exempt from membership dues.
New payment options:
- The preferred payment option will be ACH (electronic bank transfer), which minimizes fees.
- You will have the option to pay by credit or debit card.
- For those who are not comfortable making payments online, there will be instructions on how to pay by check.
- Dues collected through ChapterSpot will be shared with national, state and local Leagues.
- Under the current system, LWVDV pays a fixed rate per member to LWVUS, LWV California and LWV Bay Area.
- Under the new system, 33% of your dues payment will go to LWVUS, 47% will go to LWVC, and 20% will go LWVDV.
- You will be able to make an additional direct donation to LWVDV at the same time you pay your dues.
Watch for future emails and website updates with more details as we get closer to the launch of the new system!
