The LWVC Healthcare Interest Group (HCIG) met October 25, 2022. Susan Wilson and Daphne Shaw, members of the California Behavioral Health Planning Council, led a lively discussion about the LWVC Mental Health position, created in 1998. The position makes no mention of many current issues such as recovery, treatment, substance use, and patients’ rights.
Eight members of the Healthcare Interest Group volunteered to form a Task Force to look at the League’s positions and what might be updated based on current knowledge and visions of behavioral health issues. Susan Rice, LWVC Area Director on Social Policy, will convene the first Task Force meeting. The Healthcare Interest Group will meet Tuesday, November 15, 2022 from 7-8:30 PM.
