Special Meeting 9/24/2020

• Unanimously Approved - Architectural Services contract approved with HKIT Architects for multipurpose room at Sleepy Hollow Elementary.
• Unanimously Approved - Orinda Union Learning Continuity and Attendance Plan. 
  • This is a retroactive document that captured and memorialized all planning the district has done for COVID, from safety equipment to distance learning educational plan.  Will be submitted by 9/30/20.
• Unanimously Approved - Board Priorities document. 
  • Public comment: increased teacher workload due to distance learning/COVID needs to be a board priority.  Not amended, Board felt was already addressed. Approved as previously written.
• Unanimously Approved – Purchase of additional Chromebooks
  • Need to ensureinventory is refreshed; many devices will expire in 2021 meaning they will no longer get updates from Google.  
  • Money would come out of CARES Act.  Largest distribution would go to Sleepy Hollow, then OIS. 
• Starting Discussions - OPEN Plan (Orinda Path to Education Now)
  • OPEN Plan will be the document reviewing potential school reopening scenarios.  This will be more of a living document with many changes expected going forward. Five medical physicians who are parents of Orinda students stepped forward from the Orinda community and have reviewed the plan. 
  • OUSD cannot meet the requirements of the school waiver process right now.
  • November 9th potentially bring back TK-K onto campus first, then grades 1-3, then 4-5 before winter break.  Following winter break, in-person model would start at OIS.
  • Will survey all parents before next board meeting to get a more accurate count of who plans to keep their children 100% distance versus who would send back to school in previously approved hybrid model.
