Dear League Leaders and Members!

Hope you are having a great summer. After a restful break, our League leaders are refreshed and ready to tackle the challenges of the upcoming year.

In June, we had our membership-wide Annual Meeting. We reviewed our activities for the past year, approved our budget for this year, and elected our incoming leaders. We also voted on our priorities developed at the Program Planning meeting in February. They are Making Democracy Work, Educating on Mis/Disinformation to restore trust in election information, and Gun Safety.  These priorities will inform our activities for this year. (See Program Priorities for more information.) Our guest speaker was Kristin Connelly, newly elected Contra Costa County Clerk-Recorder and Registrar of Voters, who provided an excellent update on her plans for the CCC Elections Department.

As mentioned before, we want and need your active involvement in our League, in whatever ways that interest you and fit your schedule. We are looking for a leader for our Pros & Cons program and a co-chair for Civic Engagement. Our Action-Advocacy and Membership chairpersons could each use an assistant, and Community Conversations would like an additional team member. We will also need an off-board member for the Nominating Committee, which will convene in February of next year. These are interesting and rewarding committees, with training and support provided. Contact me (Anne) at anne [at] lwvdv.org for more information.

We encourage you to let us know about local issues that you want to bring to our attention and that fit within our priorities outlined above. You can always reach us at lwvdv [at] lwvdv.org () with your comments and concerns.

We also want to have fun and get to know you better. We will continue our Happy Hours in-person at various locations in the county and are planning to have quarterly or bimonthly luncheons in the coming year. Hope to see you there!

August is Civic Health Month—a time to showcase the link between voting and health and to celebrate efforts that ensure every voter has the opportunity to support their community’s health at the ballot box. August 6th is the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. August 18th commemorates the ratification of the 19th Amendment guaranteeing women the right to vote and the 26th is Women's Equality Day.

Thank you, as always, for your support!
