Greetings, League Leaders and Members!

February may be a short month, but it is an important one for the League. February 14marks the 103rd birthday of the League of Women Voters. LWVUS has organized a “People Powered League” Day of Action where Leagues from across the country will come together to commemorate our 103-year legacy through action, advocacy, and storytelling. Plans include a virtual pep rally at 11:00 am ET (8:00 am PST) featuring League leaders and other special guests. Sign up at the link above, and see more birthday suggestions in the Voter.

February is also Black History Month, a time to reflect and celebrate Black history, and to uplift the contributions of Black activists who help power our democracy. Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging should always be a part of our efforts as we continue to build a League that is representative of an inclusive democracy.

As mentioned in January, we have scheduled our Program Planning/General Membership meeting for Saturday, February 11, 2023, from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. This will be a Zoom meeting, focused on LWV Diablo Valley’s Program Priorities for this year as well as what we will recommend to LWV California for the next two years. LWVC board members will carefully consider the input from League members as they formulate their recommended program and set both policy and budgetary priorities at the LWVC Convention in May.

In the League,  we decide where and how we will focus our resources – member time, money, and reputation. Please SAVE THE DATE for our meeting on the 11th and be on the lookout for more information about this important meeting. We need your ideas!

Upcoming LWVDV events include a Coffee Hour Social on February 15th and a Community Conversation about Measure X on February 16th. We are also beginning to plan an event in the Spring/Summer that may include partnering with Braver Angels. Stay tuned!

Happy Valentine’s Day and, as always, thank you for your support!

Anne Granlund, President

Sue Brandy and Janet Hoy, Co-Vice Presidents
