League Leaders and Members:
Happy New Year! Hope your holidays were joyful and restful. 2024 promises to be a very busy year for all levels of League with March primaries and propositions and the general election in November.

January kicks off Voter Services with candidate roundtables on January 12th at CCTV in Martinez. In preparation for candidate forums, Pros & Cons presentations, and roundtables in the fall, our Voter Services team will be offering moderator training this month. Save January 16th from 7 - 8:30 p.m. for our training and get fully prepared to join our live forum team as a newly minted moderator.

Our League also has a lot more going on in January. We have a virtual Community Conversation on Mis/Disinformation: How to Recognize and Respond to It on January 18th from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. This webinar will explore how falsehoods spread and how we can avoid them, respond, and deepen our capacity for constructive civil discourse. In addition, a coalition of League members, including our local League, is planning a webinar discussing the trustworthiness of our election system on January 25th from 7 – 8:30 pm that will feature Tommy Gong of the Contra Costa County Elections Department.

In previous elections, Leagues in California used Smart Voter, then Voter’s Edge as online information tools, while Leagues outside California used VOTE411. Beginning with the March 2024 primary,Vote411 logo VOTE411.org will also be that must-have resource for everyone in California who needs our trustworthy LWV election information. If you want to help, please voter.services [at] lwvdv.org (email our county coordinator Sue Boudreau) to be included in the VOTE411 team in 2024.

In national news, Virginia Kase Solomon, the current CEO of the League of Women Voters, will be stepping down from that position to become the president of Common Cause. Her last day with the League will be February 2, 2024. The LWVUS Board of Directors will soon begin a national search for a new CEO - we will share more in the weeks ahead.

SAVE THE DATE: Our Program Planning meeting is scheduled for Saturday, February 10th from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Program Planning is an all-member meeting that sets the direction for our local League priorities prior to voting at our Annual Meeting. This is your opportunity to suggest our League’s priorities for the next year. More information will be available in the coming weeks.
