Dear League Leaders and Members!

We had a very “eventful” April. Our League’s first in-person event in three years was held on April 12th and was a big success. In addition to volunteers from Braver Angels, who explained their model of civilly discussing difficult topics, we had two great volunteers from the audience (members Kate Riley and Karlina Meyer) to demonstrate how it works. Great refreshments and a good (and informative) time were had by all. Many thanks to all those who made it happen!

On April 20th, we co-sponsored another highly informative event, with the Contra Costa Library and LWV West Contra Costa, Part II of our virtual Community Conversation on “Understanding Universal Healthcare.” Links to this presentation and Part I can be found on our web site, lwvdv.org, along with past events.

We are getting ready for the LWV California Convention on May 19–21 in San Francisco. The convention will offer many different informative panels, workshops, and caucuses for delegates and other LWV members. Delegate voting for the state nominating slate, budget, and 2023-2025 Program will take place on Sunday.

We want to highlight an important “Save the Date.” Our LWVDV Annual Meeting is on Saturday, June 17th, from 10 am to 12 pm via Zoom. Please plan to attend as we will be voting on the slate of officers and leaders for 2023-24, our budget for the year, and our local priorities. More information to follow – we hope to see you there!

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Mental Health Awareness Month, and Jewish American Heritage Month. Enjoy Cinco de Mayo celebrations and remember the sacrifices of our veterans on Memorial Day – we owe them a huge debt of gratitude.

Thank you for your support!
