This year, in response to the challenges of Covid-19, our League gave special attention to social safety net issues, like the allocation of Measure X funds, while maintaining and strengthening our community educational work and voter services programs. The Board also updated and streamlined our business practices.
However, the 2022 United States elections - to be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 - are only a year away. The League is at the forefront of the most important federal and state cases across the nation, working tirelessly to oppose all forms of voter suppression and supporting legislation that empowers Americans to participate in the voting process. We have a key role to support everyone’s right to vote.
Now is the time to get more involved and we need YOU! Democracy only works if we all take responsibility. We are looking for new members, new skills and talents, and more diverse perspectives.
- Read The Voter for updates every month.
- Attend Community Conversations events.
- Read our Observer Reports. League Observers carefully follow and report on developments regarding the Concord Naval Weapons Station, Board of Supervisors, Measure X Advisory Committee, school boards, cities, and more.
- Check out the new Volunteer Opportunities page on our website. YOU or someone you know has the valuable time and/or skills we need!
- Participate in Action Alerts when they are announced. (There are several right now!)
- Attend Action-Advocacy meetings to learn about and discuss priority issues and potential actions.
- Magnify your impact with an end-of-year donation above and beyond your dues.
- Contribute to our upcoming fundraiser in December or donate online.
As Leagues around the country responded to historic events this year, we were reminded that “democracy is not a spectator sport”. This quote is attributed to Lotte E. Scharfman, a refugee who escaped from Austria during WWII, and then devoted her life to the democratic process. Lotte became a member of the Massachusetts League of Women Voters. We are inspired and motivated by her life and words.
