LWV Responds to Supreme Court Allowing Trump Deportations Without Due Process
News

Today the Supreme Court paused a lower court order that prevented the Trump administration from deporting migrants to countries other than their country of origin without affording them due process. Celina Stewart, CEO of LWVUS, issued a response. "To allow the administration to deport residents to any third country without due process puts every American resident and citizen at risk and is a disgrace to the principles this country claims to stand for. "

Violence has no place in our democracy.

LWVUS Responds to arrest of Newark Mayor

“We are deeply alarmed over the arrest of Mayor Baraka while attempting to investigate the condition and treatment of detainees in his city. Mayor Baraka was joined by Members of Congress, who are lawfully able to visit detention centers. Efforts to expose injustice should never be met with obstruction or criminalization by the government.”

SB 42, the California Fair Elections Act, would put a measure on the ballot to repeal the ban on public financing of campaigns in California. Attend the kickoff to hear Helen Hutchinson from LWVC (co-sponsor of bill) and many others explain why this bill is needed.
