The Mechanics' Institute and the League of Women Voters of San Francisco are co-sponsoring a conversation with Martha S. Jones and Maxine Anderson about the League’s policy of diversity, equity and inclusion. Maxine Anderson is a director for the League of Women Voters of California. Martha Jones is a professor of history at Johns Hopkins University and author of the upcoming book Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All.
“This program focuses on the issues of diversity and division that complicated the Suffrage Movement throughout its history and the implications now. We will address the important leaders who fought for voting rights for black women and minorities---and the status of equality, equity and inclusion for those rights today. VOTING this fall is our right and the most powerful tool for promoting democracy and justice.”
