The League of Women Voters of New Castle County (LWVNCC) President Marjorie Johnson's message for April 2020 is included below...

As we have heard so often lately, we are living in difficult, trying times and I hope that you are staying at home, practicing social distancing and staying well. In these unprecedented conditions, the LWVNCC has still been trying to do the work of preserving democracy as you will see below, and we are working on alternative ways to provide voters with as much information and education as we can. It has been a steep learning curve to adapt to new technologies and to learn new ways of communicating.

We are disappointed that so many events regarding the 100th anniversary of both the League and the 19th amendment are having to be cancelled. We were looking forward to great celebrations and learning experiences, in collaboration with various partners. And even while the legislature is not in session, our various committees are hard at work to be ready when it resumes.

But in the end, we are most concerned about everyone’s health and so I leave you with the following:

Prayer for a Pandemic - Cameron Bellm
May we who are merely inconvenienced, remember those whose lives are at stake.
May we who have no risk factors, remember those most vulnerable.
May we who have the luxury of working from home remember those who must choose between preserving their health or making their rent.
May we who have the flexibility to care for our children when their schools close, remember those who have no options.
May we who have to cancel our trips remember, those that have no safe place to go.
May we who are losing our margin money in the tumult of the economic market, remember those who have no margin at all.
May we who settle in for a quarantine at home, remember those who have no home.
As fear grips our country, let us choose love.
During this time when we cannot physically wrap our arms around each other, let us yet find ways to be the loving embrace of God to our neighbors.

WASH YOUR HANDS!
