Upcoming School Board Candidate Forums

The Delaware state PTA will host virtual candidate forums at the end of June, 2020, for the following school districts:

    • Monday June 29, 5:30 pm: Appoquinimink School District
    • Monday June 29, 6:15 pm: Caesar Rodney School District
    • Monday June 29, 7:00 pm: Christina Red Clay School District
    • Tuesday June 30, 6 pm: Brandywine School District
    • Tuesday June 30, 7 pm: Red Clay Consolidated School District

Update 6/6/2020 - the forums for Christina and Brandywine districts have been canceled, as there are no more contested seats following recent candidate withdrawals from the race. The remaining three forums have been consolidated into one night, Monday June 29, 2020.

Mark your calendar now! These forums will be live-streamed on the Delaware PTA Facebook page. In 2019, the PTA forum for Colonial School District candidates was very popular, with 1,500 views, and questions taken in real-time from the remote viewing audience.

The League of Women Voters of NCC urges all Delaware citizens to learn about the candidates in your district, and vote in the July 21 school board election. As Yvonne Johnson, PTA VP for Advocacy at both the state and national level, points out, "By participating in school board elections you are using your voice to make substantive change."

Voting Absentee

Please note that all Delaware voters can vote by absentee ballot in the 2020 school elections.

To get your absentee ballot(s), start at elections.delaware.gov or VOTE411.org.

Per Governor Carney's executive order, Delaware citizens are to use the "sick" or "physically disabled" reason codes when requesting absentee ballots due to COVID-19 restrictions or self-isolation while the state of emergency remains in effect.

About Delaware PTA

The Delaware State PTA's formal name is the Delaware Congress of Parents and Teachers. At a recent Virtual Advocacy Day, Ms. Johnson outlined the PTA's Mission: To make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.

Sarah Bucic, Federal Legislative Chair for the Delaware PTA, noted that another word for "advocate" is "champion," stating

"PTA advocates are champions for children."

More information about the Delaware PTA can be found at the delawarepta.org website.
