January 3rd LWV Candidate Forum

The League of Women Voters of New Castle County will host a forum for Newark Mayoral candidates on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at 7:00 pm at the Newark Free Library.  

The forum is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 6:30 pm. Members of the audience will be given cards on which to write questions for the moderator to pose to the candidates. An informal "Meet and Greet" for all candidates present will follow the program.

All qualified candidates have been invited to attend. At least two candidates must be present for the forum to proceed, and as of mid-December 2023 two candidates (Michael O'Neal and Demitri Theodoropoulos) have agreed to participate. The forum will be video recorded and available, in its entirety, afterward on the LWVNCC website (https://my.lwv.org/delaware/new-castle-county).

More on the January 9th Newark Special Election

Due to the Oct 2023 resignation of Newark Mayor Stu Markham, the City of Newark will hold a special municipal election on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 to fill the remainder of the current term for Mayor, which ends in April 2025.

Any individual who is at least 18 years old and is registered to vote with the State of Delaware at a residence within the City of Newark is eligible to vote for Mayor. 

Candidates for the office are James Carley, Jerry Clifton, Michael O'Neal, and Demitri Theodoropoulos.
