Updates provided by LWVNCC Voter Registration Chair Patti Christopher and VOTE411 Coordinator Jill Itzkowitz for the LWVNCC Summer VOTER Newsletter show that local and state voter services efforts are going strong in 2022.

LWVNCC Voter Information Tables

As Patti noted in the newsletter, our traditional voter registration events are evolving into more of voting education/guidance to the public, as many Delawareans have already registered to vote when they get their state ID or driver license at the DMV as they come of age or move to our state.

LWVNCC plans to have voter information tables at these upcoming New Castle County events:

    • Saturday 9/10,11 am to 3 pm Block Party at 1200 N. French Street.
    • Saturday 9/10, 1 to 4 pm - William Penn High School Community Event on Basin Road.
    • Sunday 9/11 - Community Day at  Biden Park in the Brack Ex area.
    • Saturday 9/17 - Health Expo at St Patrick Senior Center.
    • Saturday 9/17 - Open Streets on Delaware Avenue between Union Street and Brinkle Streets.
    • Sunday 9/18, 11 am to 5 pm - Newark Community Day, on "The Green" by University of Delaware.
    • Monday 9/19 - Constitution Day at Delaware Technical and Community College; Wilmington Campus and Stanton Campus
    • Tuesday 9/20 - National Voter Registration Day. We will be working with other organizations at many different places, including county libraries and homeless shelters.
    • Saturday 9/24, 1 to 4 pm - New Ark United Church of Christ on Main Street in Newark, both outside and inside.
    • Saturday 10/15 - Open Streets on Baynard Boulevard between 18th Street and Concord Pike.
    • Sunday 10/23 - Making Strides Against Breast Cancer at Bellevue State Park.

League members are encouraged to volunteer to staff the tables at these and other events. Contact Patti Christopher if you can help. Typically volunteers work in pairs for 2 to 2 1/2 hour shifts at the tables. So don't worry if you are a "newbie"; you won't be alone.

Patti notes that she is also looking for volunteers to be part of a committee in planning our strategy and goals, as well as a Voter Registration Co-chair. Please let her know if you are interested.

Hospital ER Program

In conjunction with the ACLU, Patti participated in a zoom meeting with the emergency room residents and physicians at the Christiana Care Hospital. There was an initiative about five years ago at the University of Pennsylvania where ER (Emergency Room) doctors realized the importance of making sure their population was registered or someone was available to register patients. This effort is now being implemented at Christiana Hospital and we are now part of this effort. LWV applauds this service to the community.

Delaware's VOTE411 Guide for the Sept 13 Primary Election went live on August 8, 2022

VOTE411 Online Voter Guide

Vote411, a nonpartisan tool through the League of Women Voters of Delaware, is now available for residents looking for voting and candidate information for the September 13, 200 state primary election. The party primaries narrow the field of candidates for the November general election to just one per party.

This year’s primary races include one statewide race, for auditor of accounts; three state senate district races; 11 representative district races; one New Castle County Council race; two Kent County Levy Court races; and Sussex County Register of Wills, Recorder of Deeds, as well as one Council District seat.

To access your information, go to www.vote411.org and enter your address. To see input from other candidates not in your district use this link: VOTE411 Delaware race index.

All VOTE411 users can help to make the information more complete! If you notice that a candidate in your district has not responded, you can email or message the candidate, using the contact information listed on Vote411. League members can also volunteer to join the VOTE411 project team by contacting Jill Itzkowitz. Everyone can promote Vote411 by posting to your social media accounts, so that your friends and neighbors learn about this terrific free resource.
