“If you just add capacity in hopes of maintaining Level of Service (LOS), you end up in [ . . .] a vicious cycle where you induce more demand, you squeeze out other modes, and you end up with more cars and more congestion,” Eric Sundquist, Director of the State Smart Transportation Initiative (SSTI).”
Eric Sundquist, Managing Director of the State Smart Transportation Initiative, is a nationally known expert in transportation planning who will speak to the League on just one way we might be able to influence the County Comprehensive Plan update. It is a huge coup for us to have this widely respected planning guru talk to us about a big problem in New Castle County and across the country.
We currently measure traffic quality by how fast it zooms by. How about less zooming and more walking and biking? Widely published, Eric holds a PhD in city and regional planning from Georgia Tech. He is currently located at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. The LWVDE has a position supporting the reduction of Vehicle Miles Travelled (VMT).
