Per Governor Carney's executive order on 3/24/2020 due to the COVID-19 state of emergency, this election was to be rescheduled from April until after May 15, 2020.  However in June 2020 the town of Newport announced that candidate Frank Romanowski has withdrawn from the race. With two candidates remaining for two open seats, no election will be held in Newport, Delaware in 2020.

Per the town's June newsletter:

Candidate Frank Romanowski has decided to withdraw his candidacy for this year.  As a result, there will be no election as there are two open council seats and two candidates.  Incumbents Flo Czerwinski and CarolAnn Gretz will take their Oath of Office at the Reorganization meeting on Thursday, July 16, 2020, at 6:45 pm, just prior to our regular council meeting at 7:00 pm.
