Nov 23 Election Set for Newark City Council District 2

Due to the death of Councilwoman Sharon Hughes in September 2021, there will be an election on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 for Newark City Council District 2.

District 2 is the southeast portion of the city, encompassing the Newark Free Library, the Newark Senior Center, parts of the U.D. campus, and the Belleville Rd industrial area near I-95. A map of city election disticts can be found here at Newark's arcgis maps page.

Polls open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m on Nov 23rd. The physical polling place for this election is as follows:

    • District 2 - polling location will be at the Newark Free Library, 750 Library Avenue

However, the City of Newark encourages City residents to vote by absentee ballot. Absentee ballot applications and instruction sheets will be mailed by the city to registered voters in District 2 by Friday November 5. 

City residents (within the corporate limits of the City of Newark) who are at least 18 years old and are registered to vote with the State of Delaware are eligible to vote in Newark elections. You may register to vote through the State Department of Elections online voter portal, ivote.de.gov.
