January Topic - Gloria Steinem, the Roots of Change

It is easy to think of a New Year as a blank sheet of paper to begin writing on, to be filled with great experiences and challenges. The hope would be that there would be few trials and tribulations. In that spirit the first TED Talk for 2021 is: “To Future Generations of Women, You Are The Roots of Change”, a conversation with Gloria Steinem facilitated by Pat Mitchell. This interview is focused on looking “forward and onward when it comes to Women in the World. Recognizing that we are the Women of the World, this talk is a great way to kick off the new year!  As noted in the TED abstract:

Steinem reflects on the revolutionary roots of the feminist movement, the fundamental need for intersectionality to combat prejudice, and how she overcame her fears with the support of friends. Now she urges future generations of women to advocate for each other in solidarity -- and discover the freedom found in companionship and community.

Gloria Steinem is a well-known activist for feminism and author. She is quick to note that feminism is for every woman and believes that the term is still misunderstood today. She is interviewed by Pat Mitchell, a lifelong advocate for women and girls and the curator for TED Women.

Come! Be Inspired! Join the conversation that will move us forward and onward as Women of the World! Saturday, January 16th at 1:00 pm.
