The League of Women Voters of New Castle County invites you to its monthly TED Discussion, Saturday January 18th. The format is to watch the TED Talk and then discuss the "Ideas Worth Sharing." Contact Kay Palmer with questions or to RSVP.

January Topic

The TED Talk for January is at the intersection of the National initiative to build diversity and inclusion and issues that are confronting our legislature. In this presentation Michael Tubbs, the youngest mayor in American history to represent a city with more than 100,000 people, shares how his upbringing in Stockton, California shaped his bold vision for change. The presentation; The Political Power of Being a Good Neighbor, highlights his commitment to “govern as a neighbor and not a politician”. Mr. Tubbs notes that:

When we see someone different from us, they should not reflect our fears, our anxieties, our insecurities. We should see our common humanity. 

His policies, leadership, and ambitious agenda have sparked national conversations.

Mr. Tubbs was elected mayor of the Stockton, California in January 2017 as the city’s first African-American mayor. He has been included in Fortune's 2018 "40 under 40," Forbes' 2018 list of the "30 Under 30" and The Root's 100.

This stimulating discussion will be centered around the idea of addressing issue by being a good neighbor rather than a more aggressive approach.
