LWVAC is launching a "What You Can Do" (WYCD) campaign where we share a series of action plans. With so much happening on the national stage, these action plans are intended to encourage you to respond to the daily breach of the rule of law and the separation of powers. CURRENT TOPIC: How Much of Your Personal Data does DOGE Have?
The Privacy Act (part of the Freedom of Information Act) enables citizens to find out what personal information any government agency has collected on them. Recently, a judge in the District Court for the District of Columbia held that DOGE must respond to Privacy Act requests – so let’s file some!
Following the lead of U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin, we are encouraging all U.S. citizens to join him in filing formal demands for access to their personal data obtained by the DOGE.
CURRENT ACTION: File a Privacy Act Request!
Just fill out this form, print it, and mail it (address provided). DOGE will then have a legal obligation to respond. At the very least, you might learn something interesting about how Musk and his team are collecting and using your data – and if enough of us file these requests, we might at least slow down their rampage through our public institutions.
