LWVAC is launching a "What You Can Do" (WYCD) campaign where we share a series of action plans. With so much happening on the national stage, these action plans are intended to encourage you to respond to the daily breach of the rule of law and the separation of powers. CURRENT TOPIC: Restricting access to voting
Florida lawmakers are once again trying to restrict voter access to the polls. Florida bills SB 1414 and HB 1381 are further restrictions on voting, including greater power to the Elections Crimes and Security office, elimination of student ID as an acceptable ID, cutting early voting time in half, prohibiting early voting the last Sunday before election and more.
CURRENT ACTION: Call your legislators to voice your opposition to further restrictions on voting access
-
NOW: A vote will take place on HB 1831 in the Government Operations Subcommittee on April 1, 2025 at 4 p.m. Please call Jeff Holcomb (850) 717-5053 (Vice Chair of the committee) with the following message: "My name is (your name) and I live in zip code (your zip). As a Florida voter, I object to HB 1381 that would further restrict voting access. In the last three legislative sessions more and more restrictions on voting rights. Florida should encourage, not discourage voting. I strongly object to the restrictions presented in HB 1381. Thank you."

Going forward: Follow HB 1831 and the companion bill in the Senate SB 1414 on the Florida Senate tracker website. Sign up for alerts as it moves through the process, and contact the appropriate representatives and senators to continue voicing your opposition to further restrictions on voting.
