Every voter should be able to have an easy and efficient experience at the polls. There are several ways YOU can help make that happen.
Be a Poll Worker
Working the polls is one of the most effective ways to support democracy. August 1 was National Poll Worker Recruitment Day. Did you sign up?
The League of Women Voters of Florida is partnering with Power the Polls, a coalition dedicated to recruiting a new wave of poll workers by working with Supervisors of Elections to understand where needs are the highest, and connecting people with local opportunities to serve as a poll worker — one of the most effective, nonpartisan actions we can take in support of our democracy.
Alachua County voters can sign up directly with the Alachua County Supervisor of Elections. Voters registered in other states or counties can sign up with Power the Polls.
Be a Poll Monitor
Don't have the time or ability to work a full shift on election day or during early voting? Consider being an Election Poll Monitor.
Election Protection/866-Our-Vote is the largest nonpartisan voter protection program in the United States and in Florida. The League is a key partner in the Election Protection Coalition's work to protect voters in the across our state in 2024. The coalition has a statewide command center staffed with experts and lawyers who are ready to respond in real time to stop voter suppression ---- but we can only stop it if we know it's happening. That's where you come in.
Nonpartisan Poll Monitors are the eyes and ears on the ground to protect voting rights. Election Protection Poll Monitors are stationed outside priority polling locations during early voting and election day to help make sure every registered voter gets to exercise their rights. You'll be trained to directly assist voters, to observe and report issues that may be detering voters, and to connect voters with the command center if they have been denied the ballot.
