Dear Members,

Here’s hoping that you enjoyed the festive season in a gratifying manner. Closing out a year and stepping into the next gives us a chance to reconsider our values and priorities and how to live them. Happy New Year to each of you!

The goals for our League this month are to assess how we can inspire people to vote during the upcoming election season (Get Out the Vote or GOTV), to assess our resources for energizing voter turnout, and to motivate Leaguers to lend a hand with specific tasks.

In addition, a group of us, including some student members, will be heading to Tallahassee on January 23-24 for Lobby Days where we will learn how the legislative process works and speak with legislators about League priorities. We will keep showing up to represent League values.

The information from our Get Out the Vote discussions, Lobby Days, and the Meet and Mobilize event will be shared at our Board Meeting on January 30 at 6:00 p.m. by Zoom. (NOTE: the meeting is moved from the usual date to avoid conflicting with Lobby Days.) It will be an action-packed conversation. If you would like to attend, info [at] lwv-alachua.org (please let me know) and I will share the Zoom link with you.

When I consider my values and priorities for 2024, I conclude that there is nothing more important to do with my time and energy than protect our democracy. The best way I know to accomplish that is to use the strength of the League to get people to vote. Perhaps you feel similarly. If so, info [at] lwv-alachua.org (connect with me). We’re stronger together.

In League,
Janice
