Rooted in the movement that secured the right to vote for women, the League of Women Voters (LWV) has worked to foster civic engagement and encourage voting since we were founded in 1920. Over time our work has evolved to ensure not only that all eligible voters have the opportunity to vote, but also that they have adequate information to enable them to exercise that right meaningfully. As a nonpartisan organization, the LWV never supports or opposes any political candidate or party. Voter Service remains a priority of the League of Women Voters of Concord-Carlisle (LWVCC).
However, voter service is not the only focus of the League. Through a rigorous process of study and consensus, LWV has adopted positions at the national (LWVUS), state (LWVMA), and local levels. Positions are on topics as diverse as environmental protection and pollution control (LWVUS), education (LWVMA), and town government in Concord and Carlisle (LWVCC). Based on these positions, the League advocates in support of or in opposition to bills and warrant articles. The voice of the League is heard and respected in Congress, the Statehouse, and at our Town Meetings.
LWVCC also provides information about issues of importance to the citizens of Concord and Carlisle through meetings and forums. We have committees that study and advocate for immigration, the environment, housing, racial justice, and education. Members are encouraged to be involved and participate in matters that interest them.
