According to the Newport town charter, there shall be a municipal election held within the town limits on the first Monday in April each year. There will be an election on Monday, April 1, 2019, to fill the three open seats on council.  Each seat is a two-year position.

To vote in this election, you must be registered to vote in the town of Newport.  If you are not registered, you may do so any weekday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3.00 p.m at the Municipal Building, 226 N. James Street.  Registration deadline is 30 days prior to the scheduled election.

You must vote in person as the town has no provision for absentee voting.
