Dear League Leaders and Members:

Listen, learn, share information, build trust, and together grow consensus and advocate for policy change.  We have our work cut out for us and it is on the side of accomplishing constructive change!

  • Listen to perspectives of those proposing racial justice reform and racial equity in healthcare, housing, education and jobs through Community Outreach contacts.
  • Learn about issues and possible solutions for these issues.

This is where we need your help now.

Volunteer to do a little research on an issue of interest to you.  Is it healthcare equity?  Is it housing affordability or homelessness?  Are you interested in equitable delivery of the COVID vaccine?  Maybe climate emergency policies, or green job opportunitiesMaybe budgeting to support safety net programs?  Is it racial justice for our communities of color?

Need help with resources? Let us know your interest by calling the League office, or email lwvdv [at] lwvdv.org">lwvdv [at] lwvdv.org.

Your research and articles you provide to us for posting on our website will help us work on our Program Priority for 2020-21 to “ensure secure and equitable social safety net programs . . .” At our Annual Meeting in May, we will be recommending a similar Program Priority for 2021-2022, shown here:

Given the impact of COVID-19 on our community, the League of Women Voters Diablo Valley will educate and advocate for a just and green recovery in both legislative and policy actions of local governing bodies to ensure secure and equitable social safety net and other programs, consistent with League Positions.

Our League is researching what to do about communication design and delivery of policy information and advocacy.  We have had success with video-taping informational and public “LWVDV Community Conversations” but we want to develop a social media presence to provide fact-based information, directly or through links, in formats tailored to the social media method of choice.  We want to provide information to those who use the internet as their main source of information and to effectively reach younger generations.

If you have an interest in online communication, please do call in and let us know.  Effective social media messaging requires a real team effort. We can train you on how to do this with the League!

I recommend registering and attending the Bay Area League Day – these presentations have a history of inspirational delivery and include timely, practical, tested community solutions. No driving this year!

Yours in League,

Suzan
