Voter Services activities including voter registration are in a lull now that the end of the California special election for the recall of the governor is over. Activities will pick up again following the holiday season when Voter Services will be readying for the California June 7, 2022 Direct Primary Election. All Californians will know who is on the list of Candidates for Voter-Nominated Offices when the information is released on March 31,2022. LWV Diablo Valley is already working on plans for candidate forums for both June and November 2022 elections!

On Monday, October 25th, League members attended the County Elections Office’s meeting for County outreach partners.  County staff shared some interesting stats from the Recall Election:
  • Total Registered Voters in CCC:  708,753 (2020 Census, CCC pop. 1,165,927)
  • Total Ballots Counted: 460,273 (64.94%, good for a special election)
  • Vote by Mail (VBM) Ballots at Polling site: 20,169
  • VBM at Drop Off Locations: 116,223
  • VBM Ballots from USPS: 300,673 (68.79%)
  • VBM Ballots received after Election Day: 12,454 (an argument for Vote EARLY)
  • Total Ballots Returned as Undeliverable by USPS (Not Counted):  18,482 (people moved and did not re-register?...an argument to verify your registration prior to election)

We are in the midst of redistricting, based on the April 1, 2020, Census for our County population.  Your input is needed.  You can go to CoCoRedistricting.org to view the five draft maps the County has posted.  If you think the maps should look different, then you can use the tool on this site to draw your own map to submit for consideration.  The tool is very user-friendly.  This is a once-in-ten-years opportunity to make your voice heard about the divisions in our County. Redistricting also affects our representation in Congress and state legislatures, and determines how much of our state and federal tax dollars will be returned to our state and county for infrastructure, schools, hospitals, libraries, etc.
