February Topic - Universal Basic Services?

Several months ago, there was a TED Talk challenge. The challenge was to find a TED Talk that not everyone agreed with. This month’s TED Talk may have met the challenge! We shall see! The February talk is: The Case For Free, Universal Basic Services by Aaron Bastani. Mr. Bastani presents the socialist case for providing the universal basic services of Health Care, Housing, Education, and Transportation to the masses. Aaron believes that technology exists for people to achieve high levels of prosperity while addressing societies biggest challenges. It is postulated that by getting rid of capitalism and moving to universal basic services that we can achieve a better existence for all.

Journalist Aaron Bastani is the cofounder of the UK based media outlet, Novara Media. Novara covers topics ranging from capitalism to climate change. Mr. Bastani is the author of Fully Automated Luxury Communism. The book examines how technology come together to create radically creative possibilities to solve world challenghes.
