League Leaders and Members:

As you know, our mission is Making Democracy Work by Empowering Voters and Defending Democracy. These core values inform all of our advocacy and education efforts. Although we are strictly non-partisan with regard to candidates and political parties, we are political in that we take positions on issues and work to promote a free and fair electoral process. We support national and state League positions, but also what is happening at our own local level, and always through a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion lens.

We encourage you to bring local issues to our attention. If we can support a local issue that is consistent with League positions, we want to do much more. We want the League to be more visible in our local communities and we want to engage more with you, our members. We are asking for your help with our endeavors to Make Democracy Work. You can start by contacting Anne Granlund, your League President, at anne [at] lwvdv.org, who will point you in the right direction.

We are very excited about our upcoming in-person event with Braver Angels on April 12th called “Ready to Rumble?” Don’t worry – we’re not actually going to fight. You will learn how to productively talk through differences and be able to discuss controversial political issues in a powerful new way. You have been receiving our emails with specifics on the event and you can register hereCome and bring a friend!

April 22nd is Earth Day. This year's theme, "Invest in Our Planet," is focused on engaging governments, institutions, businesses, and citizens to do their part to ensure a healthy future for us all. Climate change has long been a priority policy focus for the League.

Happy Spring and thank you for your support!

Anne Granlund, President
Sue Brandy and Janet Hoy, Co-Vice Presidents
