April Topic - How to Design Climate Resilient Buildings

What if… our neighbors do not make it through a natural disaster? What if our home is destroyed? Those nerve-wracking moments of deciding whether it is time to go to the basement, that is if you have one, or to find the ‘safe’ place as the warnings are sounding. Alyssa-Amor Gibbons proposes that “architecture cannot ignore the realities of climate change.” In our April TED Talk discussion, How to Design Climate Resilient Buildings, Ms, Gibbons offers that micro solutions may be essential. Though Ms. Gibbons is acting on her childhood fears of her childhood in Barbados, the same concepts can work in our areas as well with some creative thinking and putting aside some of our housing mental models.

Why you should be in on this stimulating discussion? To hear Alyssa-Amor Gibbons describe her approach as a combination of architecture and engineering and how simple solutions can make a difference between a building still standing or one that is lost in the wind.
