Voter Education/Registration, Your Vote is Your Voice - Preparing for the 2024 Elections

Juan Diez, Community Educations Services Director of the Lee County Elections Office and representatives of League of Women Voters will provide information and resources for voting in Lee County for two key 2024 Elections:

Recording of Preparing for the 2024 Elections

Tuesday, August 20th, 2024 Primary Election

Tuesday, November 5th, 2024 General Election

Here are answers to questions Juan Diez received on May 4th which he was not able to answer -

  • Q: How long does a voter have to be registered with a political party to run as a candidate for that party?
A: Candidates who run in a Partisan race need to have been a registered member of the political party 365 days before the beginning of qualifying. This includes persons seeking to qualify for office as a candidate with no party affiliation. The deadline was 06-11-2023.

  • Q: Will there be any impact on Lee County voters since the Fort Myers Mail Handling Facility is closed and all mail is going to Tampa and then being returned to Lee County homes?
A: There should be no impact on voters receiving their vote-by-mail ballots. As it gets closer to the time of ballot mailing, our office will be in contact with USPS. The Fort Myers Business Mail Entry Unit (BMEU) and the Processing and Distribution Center (P&DC) in Fort Myers are not closing. The only closure we are aware of is the Fort Myers Downtown Station post office, now operating out of the Page Field Station post office.

  • Q: Are Community Development District (CDD) races in the Primary or General Election ballot?

A: CDD races are on the General Election ballot.

  • Q: What is the process for purging voters from the voting system?

A: Our office does not purge voters. We complete a List Maintenance in accordance with state and federal laws. I am attaching a file with the information about this process.
