LWVNCC is co-sponsoring a virtual candidate forum to be hosted by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Alpha Alpha Tau Omega Chapter, on April 11, 2024 for the candidates for Appoquinimink school board. The 6:30pm forum will be held via remote web conference. Registration is required at aatodeaka.org.
The event is free to the public. AKA and LWV invite you to learn more about the school board candidates, to better undersand their position on key educational issues so you can cast an informed vote in the May 14th school board election.
To determine if your school district has an election this year, refer to the Delaware Department of Elections website: School Board - Department of Elections - State of Delaware. Most districts statewide will have at least one seat open each year, but when seats are uncontested (when only one candidate files for each open seat in a school district election), the election is not held and the single candidate assumes the seat automatically.
Four candidates are vying for one open board seat in the Appoquinimink school district: Norman A. Abrams Jr., Timothy W. Johns, Candace M. Jusino, and Britney Mumford. All four have been invited and two had indicated acceptance as of late March. In accordance with LWV nonpartisan rules at least two candidates must be present for the forum to proceed.
School board elections are held in Delaware state-wide annually on the second Tuesday in May. This year's election will be held on May 14, 2024.
