Time Range For Action Alert:
Oct 21 2024 to Nov 05 2024

Early voting began today. Mail in voting is ongoing. The last day to vote in this election is November 5. Our focus continues to be informing voters, and the way you can help is by passing out League handouts to your friends, neighbors and groups. The best place for people to get information on their ballot choices is the League VOTE411.org site. Each of our handouts has a QR code that directs people to VOTE411.org.

LWVAC President Janice Garry has a supply of handouts and also the League Voter Guide (a hard copy of the information in VOTE411.org) on her porch. If you know where her home is, you are welcome to take supplies from the porch at your convenience. If you have not been there, send her an email at info [at] lwv-alachua.org and Janice will provide the address.

As a reminder, our local League has made voting recommendations on local referendums and the one mil tax for schools. The state League has made voting recommendations on three amendments. A summary of the recommendations is below. A full suite of voter resources is available on our Voter Toolkit.

Thanks to each of you for being an active part of democracy this election!

Local Referendums

  • Vote YES on the public utilities referendumA Yes vote will return local decisions to local leaders, not governor appointees.
  • Vote YES on county commission at-large electionsA Yes vote will return every voter's chance to choose every county seat.
  • Vote YES on one mill tax for schoolsSince 2008 voters have approved this tax to support teachers and programs in Alachua County.

State Amendment Recommendations

  • Vote NO on Amendment 1A no vote will prevent legalizing partisan politics in school boards.
  • Vote YES on Amendment 4A yes vote will allow women and doctors to make health care decisions, not politicians.
  • Vote NO on Amendment 6. A no vote would keep public financing in place, allowing non-rich candidates to run.
