Statistics show that handwritten correspondence is the second most effective method of getting out the vote, just behind canvassing.
Using this information, Marsha Heine, Co-Chair of the Metro League’s Get Out The Vote (GOTV) Committee, started our newest Metro League project of giving new voters hand-written cards thanking them for registering, and letting the new voter know what voting means to the person thanking them.
The new voter gets the handwritten card immediately after registering to vote at a Metro League registration. And, since we project lots of new voter registrations for the fall, we need volunteers to write LOTS of thank-you notes!
Right now, we are writing postcards aimed at a general audience, but we are also now developing cards specifically for newly naturalized citizens and youth, ages 18-24.
Mary Ann Moore, GOTV Committee member, is heading up this project for the Metro League, and she has stocked the League office with supplies of cards and written instructions for filling out the cards at the League office. So, pick some up and start getting new voters to the polls. (Thank you note-writing parties are fun!)
We hope to make this an ongoing project for every election, meaning volunteers to write the thank you notes will be needed throughout the year.

And, thanks in advance!
