The League of Women Voters South County's Susan B. Wilson Civic Education Merit Award Ceremony will be held June 6th, 4:30 PM at the Governor's Reception Room in the RI State Capital. This is an annual statewide competition for teachers K-12 who incorporate civics and civic participation into the classroom in innovative ways.
This year's winners are: First Place - The team of Lindsay Blivin and Courtney Moffitt, grade 3, Ashaway Elementary School; Second Place - Lesdin Salazar, Central Falls High School, Central Falls, the After-School program; and Third Place - The team of Michael Gleason and Mary Petrofes, Westerly High School, Westerly, for the Freshman Collaborative course on Humanities and Civics.
The keynote speaker is Kristen Hayes-Leite, Rhode Island Teacher of the Year.
The ceremony is open to the public.
