CHILDREN UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND
Position In Brief:

The League believes that the relationship among governmental officials concerned with children under the jurisdiction of the State of Rhode Island (Children's Code Commission, the Advisory Council and the Department of Children and Their Families) should be streamlined and simplified. Efforts should be made to eliminate overlapping authority among this group. The Executive Directorate has fulfilled its mandate as set out in the Governor's Executive Order and should be eliminated. The need for coordination and liaison remains.

The League believes that the Advisory Council should be smaller, more representative (i.e. include a better "mix" of the state population, including groups) and members should have staggered terms.
