The NAACP Montgomery Co-Radford City-Floyd Co Branch (NAACP MRF) and the League of Women Voters – Montgomery County (LWV-MC) are hosting the 2025 Candidate Forums for the Town of Blacksburg, Town of Christiansburg, and Montgomery County. Candidates running for each elected position have been invited to participate.
The Blacksburg Mayoral Candidate Forum is scheduled for Thursday, August 21, 2025, featuring candidates Peter Macedo and Michael D. Sutphin. The Town Council Candidate Forum will take place on Thursday, August 28, 2025, with candidates Susan G. Anderson, Darryl R. Campbell, Lauren M. Colliver, Joel L. Goodhart, and James D. Harder vying for three open seats. Both events will take place at the Blacksburg Municipal Building starting at 6:30 p.m.
The Christiansburg Mayoral Candidate Forum is scheduled for Thursday, September 4, 2025, featuring candidates D. Michael Barber and Carl R. Pauli. The Town Council Candidate Forum will take place on Thursday, September 11, 2025, with candidates Joshua A. Bryan, Harry F. Collins Jr., Matthew A. Hicks, Tanya J. Hockett, Elizabeth S. Umberger, and Christine A. Waltz vying for three open seats. Both events will take place at Christiansburg Town Hall starting at 6:30 p.m.
The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors Candidate Forum is scheduled for Thursday, September 18, 2025, featuring candidates Gunin Kiran (District A), Steve R. Fijalkowski (District C), and Michel T. "Todd" King (District D). Each is running unopposed. This event will take place at the Montgomery County Government Center starting at 6:30 p.m.
The School Board Candidate Forum will take place on Thursday, September 25, 2025, with candidates Matthew Buswell Roberts (District A), Dana M. Partin and Adam R. Ryan (District C), and Jamie M. Bond (District D). This event will take place at the Montgomery County Government Center starting at 6:30 p.m.
Early voting begins on Friday, September 19, 2025, and ends on Saturday, November 1, 2025. Election Day is Tuesday, November 4, 2025. Visit www.elections.virginia.gov for your polling location.
The NAACP MRF and LWV-MC are nonpartisan organizations focused on educating the public and mobilizing voters. The candidate forums offer voters and residents the opportunity to hear from candidates and ask questions.
