The League will NOT host a First Tuesday Talk in March.

The League of Women Voters invites you to our FIRST TUESDAY SOCIAL AND INSIGHTS  on April 1 for an important presentation on Climate Change.  We will meet at Bull & Bones during Happy Hour at 5 p.m. so League members and community friends who work during the day can join us to hear a talk by Carl Zipper, VT emeritus professor on: Human-Induced Climate Change and Policies for Addressing It.

Community members and students concerned about climate change are encouraged to join us to learn about the problem and possible solutions from Dr. Zipper, who taught environmental science and climate change at Virginia Tech for 28 years. Zipper has also advocated for national policies to address the problem. Read more here.

The Happy Hour at Bull and Bones starting at 5 p.m. will give League members and friends a chance to visit and connect before the talk begins at 5:15 p.m.

Our speaker will discuss a little bit of science and a lot of policy. On the science side: How can we know that humans are the major cause of the rapidly changing climate? And what are its consequences? On the policy side: Certain “tried and true” policy approaches have been applied successfully to other environmental problems and could be adapted to address climate change – if there is political will. International, national, and state-level approaches will be discussed.

The meeting is open to all League members and all community members as well as students who are concerned about the environment and climate change. Come listen to insights and share your questions and concerns!
