Rise Up is a program to encourage, support, and explore ways women can get involved in the political process and make an impact on their communities. It is open to the New River Valley Community, especially young and middle aged women and students who may be thinking that elected or appointed offices could be part of their futures. You don't have to have a plan to run for office to be welcome. Come with curiosity about options and an interest in procedures (or maybe a willingness to encourage someone else). 

According to the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University as of 2022, women currently hold 27.3 % of seats in the US Congress, 31% in statewide elective positions, and 31.1% in state legislatures despite women being 50.52% of the population. Women of color makeup a small percentage within those as well at under 40% of all elected women in the US. Given these low numbers it's is more important than ever for women to be a part of the political process through holding elected positions.
