We’re not quite done with summer yet, but a busy season is ahead, so dive into the August Voter and see what you might want to put on your calendar and which teams you want to join:

  • The month starts with Action/Advocacy Committee on Saturday, 8/3. Saturday morning’s not a good time? Be sure to fill out the poll on when you’d like this committee to meet!
  • Get an overview of Wildfire Preparedness from the experts at our monthly meeting – note that this time it’s on Tuesday evening, August 20, rather than Saturday.
  • And save the date for our September monthly meeting on September 21, spotlighting Voters Service.
  • One more meeting, if you’re a fairly new member – and you get to help pick the date! Our next membership orientation is coming in September or October. Exactly when is up to you!
  • Beyond Diablo Valley, there is a regional League event on August 17 about Women’s Equality, and a September 14 Climate Change event hosted by LWV California in Sacramento.
  • One of our priority issues is Healthcare, and Pat Snyder has an update on progress at the state level with the formation of a new commission.
  • Another priority issue is Housing/Homelessness – our Observer Chair describes the issue from the perspective of the City of Lafayette. Your community may differ!
  • Interested in a particular topic, like Healthcare, that you’d like to explore more with the League? Sign up to be an Issue Resource Chair or team member. Sue Brandy’s article explains why this might be a perfect role for you.
  • Step back and take in the bigger picture of everything LWV Diablo Valley is doing with Suzan’s Leader’s Letter covering everything from campaigns to celebrations! She has a personal request for each of us as well.

Speaking of celebrations, congratulations to Shawn Gilbert – The PowerPoint presentation she developed on The History of the Suffrage Movement for DVC’s Brown Bag Series is going on the road! Carol Jensen of LWV South San Mateo County will be using it for a series on women and their public achievement at the public library there. We’re so proud of you, Shawn!
