  • Improving online registration and voter list maintenance through the DMV and other agencies;
  • Improving processes for applying for and handling of absentee ballots;
  • Enfranchising people on parole by supporting court fees being waived, as they are in MA, RI, New Hampshire and several other states; VT and Maine permit all prisoners to vote.

Sample message to adapt when contacting your Senator:

Dear Senator [NAME]:

Please vote to pass the Substitute for SB5, which updates CT's voting laws.

This bill will:

  1. put into permanent law some of the improvements we used during the COVID-19 pandemic that helped more people vote,
  2. extend the vote to persons no longer in prison,
  3. keep guns out of polling places, and
  4. modernize our voting system.

While it will create some extra work for town election officials and some state agencies, we need these changes.
