The State League’s Legislative Specialist Team is gearing up to promote good government in 2023—would you like to join the team?

The Connecticut Legislature’ 2023 Session begins January 4 and runs through the first week of June. During that time, the General Assembly will consider bills that will define our democracy and our lives here in Connecticut.

We are lucky to have members who develop expertise on an issue—election law, mitigating climate change, clean elections, reproductive healthcare, school funding—and work a few hours a week with us to follow the legislature’s consideration of those issues. A specialist’s role involves reading proposed legislation, deciding with us if we should take a position and what it should be, and helping us craft our message to deliver via public hearings, calls to action to our members, and widespread education efforts.

You don’t have to be an expert (yet) on any topic, you just need the willingness to learn. This year we anticipate needing help with Early Voting Implementation among other issues. If you would like to help with issues we’ve worked on in the past (see our 2022 report here) please let us know. Expressing interest doesn’t commit you to anything—Patricia Rossi, our VP for Advocacy—would love to talk with you about what we do.
